Recap day 3

Day 3 is the first finals day! There’s more wind than the previous days so the sailors are excited for some action! Around 10 AM all the boats are launching and heading to the race course. Around 11 AM races started in 12-15 knots and again a clear blue sky: Workum is treating us well! The wind dropped again at the end of the day, but plenty races have been sailed.

Report day 2

The weather looks promising again on Friday morning, but the downside of this beautiful weather is that it will affect the wind big time. The sailors do head out on schedule, but after some waiting they’re being sent back in. But it’s worthwhile waiting as after a few hours postponement the sailors are launching again. The wind picks up to even above 10 knots in the end. The Lasers and RS Feva can complete 3 more races, the High […]

Report day 1

While in the morning and after the races there where only a few knots of wind, soon after the official opening a nice breeze kicked in here at the IJsselmeer at Workum.  Even the race officers mentioned on the radio that they where slightly jealous at the young sailors: the best conditions they could wish for!
It’s been busy at their Course A. At first it seems like the sailor where […]

Notice to Competitors 001 DYR 2017

Due to the overwhelming number of Optimist entries the Organising Committee decided to add an extra fleet of 88 Optimist juniors (born before 2006). The Dutch Youth Regatta 2017 is now open for a maximum of 440 Optimist juniors and 176 Optimist Benjamins (born in 2006 and later). All Optimist sailors currently on the waiting list can compete in this year regatta.
This year the Optimist juniors and Optimist Benjamin will race on a separate course. This way we can […]

Race day 3: Black-flag-day

Race day 3 at the Dutch Youth Regatta will probably be known as the Black-Flag-Day as both Optimist race courses had to do so many restarts that several times one blackboard wasn’t enough to host all of the sail numbers of those boats who where over the line: the optimist fleet had 67 black flag disqualifications.
There’s one more race day to go and the leaders of the class is still the same in the 29er, Cadet and Laser 4.7. […]

Day 2 races shuffle the leader board

Most of the fleet finished two races on race day 1. As it’s been a difficult day yesterday it’s likely that the results will shuffle on the second day of the event. Today’s races will decide which sailors will qualify for the gold fleet.
Again some amazing weather and luckily a bit more wind today.  Most of the fleet got away for the first race on schedule. Except for the Optimists on course A, they where too eager to get […]

Tricky day on the water at first day

The Dutch Youth Regatta kicked off this morning after the final measurements and registration: 704 youth sailors, 632 boats and 22 nations are competing at this event in Workum, The Netherlands. It’s the first of the 4 days of racing scheduled. For now the Dutch are taking the lead in 4 out of 7 classes.
Instable weather
The venue felt much like the Costa del Sol. Likely the sailors from Curacao are relieved that the sun is out but, it also […]
