Besides the 9 classes, there are different age categories. There’s the regular Optimist class, but also the Optimist Benjamin for sailors aged below 12 years. Laser Radial, Laser Standard and Nacra 15 are divided in age for sailors younger than 21 and under 25. In the 29er the age differences are below 19 and under 25. Each one of these categories has its own ranking and price at the end of the event. The sailors in the different categories will race for the Open Dutch Championship, Eurocup Series and Class event.
Eurocup and European Super Series
The Dutch Youth Regatta is part of the Eurocup Series for the 29er U25. These Series are held over 9 events throughout Europe, the Dutch event is the third series after France and Spain. The final event takes place in Italy from 24 to 27 October 2020. Winners of these Series last year where the Norwegian Mathias Berthet and Alexander Franks Penty, they’ve also won the Dutch Youth Regatta.
The Dutch Youth Regatta is also part of the RS Feva Eurocup Series. The Nacra 15 sailors have the European Super Series, a series of six events through Europe.
Racing for the Dutch title
Most classes will battle for the Open Dutch Championships, a title for both Dutch and international sailors. Only for the sailors in the classes Laser Radial, Laser Standard and Nacra 15 aged between 21 and 25 years, and the RS Feva sailors don’t race for the Dutch title. There Dutch Championship takes place later in the season at another Dutch sailing event.
